This year we have the return of many festival favourites including bands on the Main Stage; music in the more intimate Acoustic Stage, a Poetry Garden with performances from spoken word artists, craft stalls and a whole host of children’s activities. The festival culminates in a street parade around local streets accompanied by a tin can inspired percussion band – we will make some noise!
Make sure that you arrive at the festival with an empty belly – as this year we have PIZZA from our very own community pizza oven built into the park plus the ever favourite homemade Cake Stall… It is said that the Stuff of Life Festival runs on cake… and this is very close to the truth as it’s a major way the festival organisers raise the funds needed to mount the event!

STUFF OF LIFE festival is unique in several ways. It is organised completely by volunteers: local people who live around the Hedley Villas park, who have formed a lively and dynamic residents association: ‘Up The Rise’ which was set up in 1999 and aims to improve the area by the simple act of helping neighbours to get to know each other better. The festival is one of a number of events organised by residents each year which include a May Day picnic, and festive carols. However the annual STUFF OF LIFE festival is undoubtedly the biggest and most well-loved event.
Voted two years running by the Nottingham Evening Post as one of the ‘Seven Hidden Gems to Visit in Nottingham Before You Die…’ Hedley Villas Park is set within an attractive square of Victorian houses and bordered by cobbled streets but is little known beyond the immediate area as it is so tucked away from any main roads, despite being visible from a mile away. Its tall poplar trees are a landmark and can be seen from the Forest Recreation Ground. T he park had a re-vamp earlier this year, and was awarded funding by Tesco to build a community Pizza Oven.
Everyone is welcome at the festival, it’s free to enter and there’s lots to see and do. It’s family friendly and no alcohol is on sale.
